Dutch bicycle licence plate 1939-40
Licence plates were required to be displayed in order to indicate that tax had been paid on bicycles in Holland. This was practice in the Netherlands / Holland throughout the 1930s and was abandoned by the occupying Germans around 1940. In fact, the Germans confiscated many Dutch bikes to be used by their army.
