Cycle Parade, Lifeboat Saturday, Alexandra Park, Belfast

Another postcard from the Lifeboat Saturday, Cycle Parade series. The parades were organised by Ireland's Saturday Night Out, a leading sports newspaper of the time:

Participants gathered in Alexandra Park before parading through the streets of Belfast. Before they set off judges awarded prizes in a variety of categories. This entry to the parade represented a “Tableau of Britannia” and was sent by Woodvale Cricket Club. It won second prize in the composite and tableaux category. It was estimated, at the time, that over 900 people took part in the parade.

The entire proceeds of the events were in aid of the widows’ and orphans’ fund of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) (Belfast Branch).

Notice the participant on the right of the photograph is blacked-up. Postcard. NFS.
